Mysuru: Mysuru’s first and 120-year-old CSI Holdsworth Memorial Hospital, popularly known as Mission Hospital, has relaunched its services after a hiatus of 14 months, with renewed commitment under the leadership of CSI Karnataka southern diocese Bishop Rev Hemachandra Kumar.Dr David J Chelli, a cardiologist who has taken over as the director of the hospital, told TOI that due to unavoidable circumstances, the hospital was non-functional for 14 months. However, now all broad specialties like general medicine, obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, and emergency and critical care are available now.Chelli claimed that the Mission Hospital, which started in 1906, was the first hospital in Mysuru. What started as a non-profit healthcare facility has continued its philanthropic service for nearly 12 decades, and even now, it will continue to provide affordable medical services to the poor section of society, he said.Situated at Mandi Mohalla, in the heart of Mysuru, the hospital has relaunched its services with only 100 beds, though its full capacity is 300 beds.To a query, David said, “Our immediate challenge is to regain its lost credibility and reassure its clients of the best and affordable medical services, which have become expensive today.” He claimed that super specialty consultation charges have been capped at Rs 300.“We’re strengthening all departments by recruiting new staffers and super specialists,” explained Dr David, who has 33 years of experience in the healthcare sector.
