MCC conducts drives to clear illegal buildings in city

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is cracking down on illegal buildings constructed in violation of city rules. Officials said that the demolition drives will continue in the city to clear unauthorised constructions. An unauthorised house was allegedly constructed in Alape village, violating the approved building plan by using the ground-floor parking space. Consequently, in the interest of the public and to enforce the law, a demolition operation was carried out on Monday as per the order of MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik.The MCC commissioner stated in an order that the owner of the building in Alape violated approved building plans and also undertook illegal construction in the area reserved for parking. The assistant town planning officer submitted a report about the building owner not adhering to the MCC order to clear the violation.The commissioner said the corporation will continue to take action against such unauthorised constructions that hinder the city’s well-being in the future.ADPO Guruprasad said that, in the interest of the public and to enforce the law, a demolition operation was conducted as per the orders of the MCC commissioner. The building was constructed in violation of regulations by cutting the ramp on the ground floor and lowering the front road. A notice was issued under Section 321 of the KMC Act, 1976, and after a lengthy inquiry in the presence of the complainants and respondents, this order was issued.The operation was successfully carried out with the cooperation of the corporation’s engineering division, town planning division, Mescom, and the police department, he said, adding that the MCC conducted similar drives in the past to enforce the law against illegal constructions.According to officials, some owners of the building challenged the MCC’s order in court. Hence, the city corporation will commence the drive only after a verdict from the court.
