Man sets son-in-law’s house on fire in Mandya

Mandya: In a disturbing incident at Chunchagahalli village, a man allegedly set his son-in-law’s house ablaze for marrying his daughter. This, despite the families belonging to the same caste, and living on the same lane.According to Maddur police, who have registered an FIR, the accused, Chennegowda, 45, was reportedly upset over his daughter’s marriage to a youth from the same locality. Police said the youth’s family earlier approached Chennegowda with a marriage proposal, but he rejected it. However, three days ago, the couple went ahead and got married in a simple ceremony. On Saturday, taking advantage of the absence of the couple and their family members, Chennegowda allegedly set their house on fire. Alerted by locals, fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. During the act, Chennegowda sustained burns and was later shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru for treatment. Sources said both the youth and his wife, both are majors, are in love for the past few years.Mandya SP Shobha Rani VJ, and other senior officers visited the incident site.
