KRV activists block NH near SVS in support of cane farmers; detained

Belagavi: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (TA Narayan Gowda faction) were detained on Wednesday after they blocked the national highway in front of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, extending their support to farmers demanding a fixed price of Rs 3,500 per tonne for sugarcane.The protesters gathered at the entrance gate of the Soudha and staged a protest in the middle of the highway, setting fire to tyres and halting traffic on both sides. Despite repeated appeals from police to disperse, the activists refused to withdraw, prompting police to take them into custody. The demonstration was led by Deepak Gudaganatti, district unit president of the organisation.Shetty faction issues bandh warningMeanwhile, members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Kumar Shetty faction) held a press conference on Wednesday, warning that they would call for a ‘Karnataka Bandh’ on Friday if the govt failed to resolve the sugarcane price issue by Thursday.
