MADIKERI: Mediation for the Nation is a special initiative aimed at resolving pending court cases through mediation, offering a peaceful and efficient alternative to traditional litigation. Launched on July 1, 2023, under the guidance of the National and Karnataka State Legal Services Authorities, the campaign seeks to settle disputes amicably within 90 days, concluding on October 10, 2023.In Kodagu district, 27 mediators are actively working to resolve cases, with 11 successfully settled so far. The initiative not only aims to expedite case resolution but also to restore peace and harmony among parties, providing a valuable opportunity for those seeking an alternative to prolonged court battles.Mediation, as outlined under Section 89 of the Civil Procedure Code, involves a neutral third party, known as a mediator, who facilitates negotiations between disputing parties to reach a mutual agreement. This process is voluntary, confidential, and allows parties to actively participate in crafting a resolution, often leading to more satisfactory outcomes than court rulings.Shubha, Member Secretary of the Legal Services and Senior Civil Judge, stated, “There are several benefits under this 90-day special mediation campaign. This not only settles the dispute quickly but also saves money and time.”
