Jumbo tramples woman to death in Sakleshpur

Hassan: A 40-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Hassan’s Sakleshpura on Tuesday.Shobha, along with her mother Rajamma, was heading towards her coffee estate in Mugalihalli village to work when the tusker attacked them. However, Rajamma ran and escaped, while the elephant chased Shobha and trampled her, officials said.Forest minister Eshwar B Khandre ordered the officials concerned to take immediate measures either to drive away the elephant or to rescue it. He also directed the chief conservator of forests (Hassan circle) to manage the situation promptly. Khandre stated that compensation will be provided to the family of the deceased as per norms to support them.Khandre also instructed the officials to take necessary precautions to prevent harm to human life from wildlife, and to alert local residents about elephant movements. Additionally, he ordered the deployment of an elephant task force.
