Mysuru: Mysuru Development Authority (MDA), which had utilised 72 acres of land without adhering to proper acquisition norms, has distributed about 1,095 sites in developed layouts as compensation to the affected landowners. However, though more than 1,095 sites were allocated as compensation, MDA had developed only four new layouts since 2004.Moreover, compensation for the acquired land was paid after a three-decade delay, resulting in significant financial loss to the urban body. The irregularities were confirmed by the single-member Justice P N Desai Commission in its report to the state govt. The report highlighted that the engineering section of MDA, earlier knbown as MUDA, had failed to monitor the establishment of layouts in keeping with the approved plan, resulting in the use of land for layout development without completing the acquisition process. MDA had paid compensation to landowners through two methods: Alternative land allocation, and provision of developed areas, such as sites. The unlawfully acquired land was used for the construction of roads, ring road, and service roads. The judicial commission has pointed out that the engineering section of MDA was solely responsible for supervising and monitoring the establiahment of layouts in accordance with approved plans. However, it did not perform its duties in keeping with legality, leading to unauthorised land usa. The commission recommended that MDA ought to review its land acquisition process and stressed the need to strengthen the engineering section and other departments of the civic authority for effective project supervision.
