Gold, silver worth Rs 95 lakh stolen

Udupi: Gold, silver, and cash worth an approximate Rs 95.7 lakh were stolen from a jewellery melting and refining shop near Chittaranjan Circle in Udupi. According to police, the complainant, Vaibhav Mohan Ghatge,30, hailing from Sangli district, Maharashtra, runs a unit on the ground floor of a building at Moodanidambur.On Monday, around 10 pm, the complainant and his relative Adarsh, who works at the shop, closed the store and locked the shutter. The next morning, at 7 am, Adarsh went to open the shop as usual and found the shutter half open. He returned home and informed the complainant.When the complainant came to the shop, he found that some miscreants had opened the shutter lock using a duplicate key and committed theft. The stolen items included about 680g of gold, kept in the refining machine, worth approximately Rs 66 lakh, about 200g of refined gold (from a drawer opened using a key) worth approximately Rs 22 lakh, around 5 kg of refined silver in small bars worth approximately Rs 6.3 lakh, and about Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.Udupi Town police registered a case in this regard.
