Gangrape case: MLA Muniratna and associates get clean chit

Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a closure report in the gangrape case against RR Nagar BJP MLA N Muniratna Naidu and four of his associates. The SIT informed Karnataka high court Wednesday that the complaint filed in May 2025 was found to be false and no evidence supported the allegations. The case, originally registered at RMC Yard police station, has now been closed with a “B report.”Taking note of the submission, Justice MI Arun adjourned the hearing on Muniratna’s petition to Sept 17. The court also extended its interim order restraining police from initiating coercive action against the MLA until the next date of hearing. The complaint was filed by a 40-year-old social worker, accusing Muniratna of masterminding the gangrape, which allegedly took place inside the lawmaker’s Mathikere office on June 11, 2023.The victim stated his two associates took her into the office under the pretext of getting Muniratna’s help in clearing a criminal case registered against her, on the directions of Muniratna himself. There, two men raped her while Muniratna watched, the victim stated. Also, the woman stated in the complaint that the MLA urinated on her.“There was not a single piece of evidence to establish the allegations levelled. Hence, we are closing the case under a B report, saying the complaint itself is false,” a senior IPS officer said.In other cases, the SIT, last Dec, charge-sheeted Muniratna and associates, including a suspended police inspector, for honey trapping and attempting to infect others with AIDS.Similarly, in Nov last year, SIT charge-sheeted Muniratna for hurling casteist abuses against a former corporator from the city.
