Mysuru: The Dasara tableaux subcommittee has decided to feature Mahatma Gandhi’s footprints in this year’s Dasara procession, which will be held on Oct 2.This year’s Dasara procession will have more than 50 tableaux drawn from all districts and govt agencies, besides various Union govt institutions. Floats will depict locations Gandhi visited and movements he launched.The committee has written a letter to all deputy commissioners to give special focus to featuring Gandhi’s footsteps. All the districts’ tableaux must also feature places where Gandhi visited in their district, or places from where he launched freedom movements, or organisations and individuals who supported the Gandhian ideology, his principles, and worked for the betterment of society in their district.During the procession, the district administration has also decided to pay tributes to Gandhi by displaying the tableaux related to Mahatma’s footsteps, besides recalling the contributions of patriots who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle.Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), Indian Air Force, Mysuru Akashvani 90th year institution celebrations, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka Milk Federation, Central Sericulture Research Training Institute (CSRTI), diamond jubilee celebrations of AIISH, Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development Organization, and KSRTC will feature tableaux highlighting their achievements to the public.ZP chief planning officer Prabhuswamy, who is also working president of the Dasara tableaux subcommittee, said that the committee has written a letter to all deputy commissioners to highlight Gandhi’s footsteps. Various Union govt institutions are also taking part in this year’s Dasara procession. Along with district tableaux, about 15 central institutions, including tourism, the department of Kannada and culture, and various boards and corporations, will display their tableaux during this year’s procession. “The committee has also decided to give prizes for the best three tableaux and to increase the cash prize amount for the tableaux,” he said.
