Belagavi: District minister Satish Jarkiholi on Sunday assured that the state government would formulate policies aligned with the demands of Souharda cooperative societies and continue to support their growth.Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the valedictory function of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Souharda Cooperative Movement at the KLE Centenary Convention Centre, Jarkiholi said that while a certain level of govt regulation was essential, it would not hinder the functioning of cooperative societies. “Our foremost priority is to ensure the safety of depositors’ money. We will hold detailed discussions on your demands and lead a delegation to chief minister Siddaramaiah to ensure they are addressed,” he said.MLA Laxman Savadi highlighted the need for cooperative societies to introduce schemes focused on improving the economic conditions of the poor, adding that he would always stand by cooperative institutions.Women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar described service in the cooperative sector as akin to serving God, noting that cooperatives have played a vital role in strengthening the financial position of economically weaker sections.Former Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore said the cooperative movement, which began over 120 years ago, continues to remain vibrant, while cautioning against excessive govt control over cooperative societies. Former legislative council member Mahantesh Kavatagimath remarked that Belagavi has a deep and historic association with the cooperative sector, with several stalwarts from the district contributing significantly to its growth and recognition.
