CID asks court to vacate protection given to Byrathi Basavaraj

Bengaluru: The CID, which is investigating the case of rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash alias Biklu Shiva, filed an application with the high court Wednesday. The application requests the court to vacate the interim protection given to KR Pura MLA Byrathi Basavaraj.The HC adjourned the proceedings to Oct 8. In the interim order, the court had directed police not to take any coercive steps against Byrathi and instructed him to appear before the investigating officer and cooperate.Additional state public prosecutor BN Jagadeesha, appearing for CID, told the court that Byrathi is not cooperating with the investigation. He is providing false information, and findings of the probe do not match with the details he has provided. Hence, custodial interrogation is necessary in the case, he argued.Senior advocate Sandesh Chouta, appearing for Byrathi, told the court his client has cooperated with the investigation and hasn’t been summoned for over a month. He sought time to file objection, and the court directed him to do so on Oct 8.Byrathi is accused number 5 in Shiva’s murder case. The rowdy-sheeter was hacked to death by a gang on July 15 near his house. The main accused, Jagadish alias Jagadeesh alias Jagga, allegedly a close aide of the MLA, had fled the country and was arrested last month.
