Chappara Muhurta as part of Shiroor Mutt’s Paryaya held

Udupi: The Chappara Muhurta rituals, as part of the upcoming Paryaya festival, were held on Friday as the countdown began for the biennial grand festival of Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt. According to the tradition of the Paryaya at Sri Krishna Mutt, the Chappara Muhurta ceremony is held after four auspicious moments. Through this, special arrangements are made for the hospitality of guests, food offerings, and the organisation of religious and cultural programmes during the Paryaya festival. The Chappara ceremony is conducted as the first event among all these programmes.In preparation for the Shiruru Mutt’s Paryaya, the Chappara ceremony was conducted under the leadership of Sudarshan Bhat, who offered the religious rituals in the area behind Vidyodaya School, near the parking area of Sri Krishna Mutt. Udayakumar Saralathaya, the diwan of the mutt, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, the general secretary of the Paryaya Reception Committee, secretary Mohan Bhat and convener Suprasad Shetty were present.Sri Vedavardhana Thirtha of Shiroor Mutt will ascend the Sarvajna Peetha for the first time on Jan 18, marking the commencement of his two-year term of performing Sri Krishna puja at the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt. The theme for this Paryaya is ‘Shiroor Paryaya – Namma Paryaya.’To facilitate Annadhana for around 3,00,000 devotees during the 10-day Paryaya period, hore kanike (offerings) will be collected from households across eight zones. From Jan 10 to 17, a daily hore kanike procession will be conducted. Meanwhile, the Pura Pravesha of the seer will be held on Jan 9.
