Hubballi: Members of BJP’s Raitha Morcha, led by BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginakai, staged a protest demanding compensation for crop loss at tahsildar’s office in Hubballi on Saturday.A protest march was taken out in a bullock cart to the tahsildar’s office, and a petition was submitted. The protesters shouted slogans against state govt.MLA Mahesh Tenginakai said that farmers who suffered losses due to heavy monsoon should be given additional compensation for their crops, including horticultural crops, as per the SDRF/NDRF rules and by the state govt. He stated that one procurement centre should be opened for each gram panchayat to purchase cereals and pulses at the support price. Rs 3,300 per tonne should be given to sugarcane growers, applicable to farmers in all districts. Farmers should be given zero-interest loans up to Rs 10 lakh from state govt cooperative banks, and more money should be released to provide agricultural equipment used by farmers at subsidised rates, among other demands.Speaking to reporters, Tenginakai said that the state govt has failed to address farmers’ issues. Chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar are busy fighting over the CM’s chair. They demanded that a procurement centre should be opened to purchase maize, along with announcing a support price for mangoes and expanding it to Dharwad district.
