BJP condemns insult to Sullia MLA on social media

Mangaluru: BJP state secretary and Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta strongly condemned the derogatory posts made against Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya on social media. In a media statement, he said, “MLA Bhagirathi comes from an oppressed community and served the people with great sincerity and dignity. Posting such low-level and offensive content against a public representative, especially a woman MLA, is highly condemnable. Targeting and maligning elected representatives in this manner on social media is a serious matter,” he said.He further stated that such posts, which disturb social harmony, only reflect intellectual bankruptcy. Instead of using social media constructively, misusing it to assassinate someone’s character is extremely unfortunate, Capt Chowta added. Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has urged police to book a case against miscreants who made derogatory posts against the Sullia MLA on social media. A case was registered at the Bantwal Rural police station over defamatory and derogatory content posted on social media against MLA Murulya. According to police, the complaint was filed by Sadananda, a resident of Bantwal taluk, who stated that on Jan 7, he noticed derogatory posts and misleading content uploaded using the MLA’s photograph on a Facebook account named Billava Sandesh. The complainant alleged that the posts amounted to false and defamatory propaganda on the social media platform. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and said that legal action will be initiated after the investigation.
