Bengaluru: A police constable was assaulted and humiliated by her neighbours after she asked them to stop bursting firecrackers on the night of Nov 2. The noise from the crackers terrified her 11-month-old child, who was unwell for two days, she said. The constable’s neighbours, identified as Tejas Gowda and his family, were bursting crackers at Yediyur in Banashankari from 8.30pm as part of Tulasi Pooja celebrations. The constable, who is posted at Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and her mother requested neighbours, including Tejas and two others, to stop bursting crackers as her baby was unwell. Tejas Gowda, 23, delivery agent for an online food-delivery firm, refused to accept her suggestion to burst crackers away from his house. When the constable said she will call police helpline 112 and complain, Tejas lost his cool and started bursting crackers in front of her house and dared her to call the cops. He also abused her, she said in her complaint. When she protested against his filthy language, Tejas grabbed her hair, dragged her for a few metres and assaulted her. His mother and another person also assaulted the constable. Locals intervened and stopped the attack, and Tejas left in a huff after issuing death threats to the constable. Police arrested Tejas remanded him in judicial custody. He told cops that he was not aware that his neighbour was a police constable as his family had moved to the area only three months ago.
