Mysuru: The department of horticulture and the District Horticulture Society have made necessary preparations to make this year’s Dasara Flower Show more vibrant and attractive to visitors. It is one of the major attractions of the 10-day Naada Habba Dasara festivities.The flower show will be open to the public from Sept 22 to Oct 2 at Kuppanna Park (also called Nishad Bagh) near Hardinge Circle abutting the Mysuru Palace. The park will be adorned with 35-40 varieties of thematic flowers and one lakh ornamental flower pots. Apart from raising and growing various flowers, the department has developed 75,000 flower pots in its nurseries at Kuppanna Park, City Central Botanical Garden, Jaladarshini Guest House, Curzon Park, and Gordon Park. The department is also bringing another 25,000 ornamental flower pots from Ooty in Tamil Nadu and Pune in Maharashtra to adorn the streets and parks this year.The department will showcase more than 40 varieties of flowers, including Poinsettia, Kalanchoe, Curcuma, Oxalis, Anthuriums, Hydrangea, Rose, Azalea, Dancing Doll, African Violet, Dis Buds, Impatience, Lisianthus, Hibiscus, Pentas Cornea, Gloxinia, Dendrobiums, Bromeliads, Verbena, Begonia Rex, Chrysanthemum, Lilies, Orchids, Clerodendrum, and other ornamental plants. These ornamental flower pots were raised in nurseries over the last 60-140 days by applying necessary fertilisers to prepare them for the flower show. The department will place these pots on the walking paths of Kuppanna Park.This year, the department has planned to exhibit flower models related to children and models of Sabarmati Ashram at the Glass House. The department has already floated a tender in this regard. It also proposes to feature flower models related to five guarantee schemes of the govt, the Indian Constitution, and women’s education. A sub-committee will finalise these models, event days, and the establishment of food and amusement stalls to be set up at Kuppanna Park.Manjunath Angadi, deputy director of horticulture department, said they have made necessary preparations to hold the show, along with floating a tender to host it. This tender also includes entry fees, food stalls, and the setting up of amusement stalls.
