Mangaluru: MLC Ivan D’Souza said that the much-anticipated Mahakalipadpu railway underbridges (RuB), the major entry point to the city, will be inaugurated formally on Jan 25 by district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and urban development minister Byrathi Suresh.Speaking after holding a work inspection on Tuesday, the MLC said that while a two-lane stretch of the four-lane road was already opened for the public, the remaining portion will be ready within a few days. Currently, vehicle movement is allowed from both sides connecting the city from Jappinamogaru on the NH-66. The RuB road, constructed by the city corporation and the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), will serve as a key gateway to Mangaluru from Kerala and other regions in the South, he said.“Former district minister and urban development minister UT Khader allocated Rs 50 crore through the Smart City initiative for this project, which will provide a four-lane road facilitating entry into Mangaluru from Kerala and Ullal. Speaker UT Khader envisioned this project five years ago, and its implementation today is a matter of joy. I persistently advocated for the completion of this project, visiting the site five times in the last two months to expedite the work by pressuring govt officials and contractors,” he said, adding that the efforts ensured the project’s successful completion and dedication to the public.Since the RuB is located in a low-lying area, the MSCL will take measures to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. The MLC also held discussions about the project with MSCL General Manager (Technical) Arun Prabha KS, and insisted that all remaining works be completed before Jan 25.
