Will consider IPS officer’s fresh plea on suspension, Karnataka government tells high court

Bengaluru: The state govt has informed the high court that if IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash submits a fresh representation seeking revocation of his suspension and reinstatement — as done by the other four suspended officers in relation to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case — it will be considered. PS Rajagopal, senior advocate and special counsel representing the state govt, made this submission when the court commenced the hearing. To this, senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa, representing Vikash, submitted the officer has already submitted such a representation. At this juncture, the division bench headed by Justice SG Pandit indicated that it would not pass any orders on the petition filed by the govt until consideration of such a representation. The bench also specified that in case the govt doesn’t pass any orders on the representation by the next date of hearing, the court will proceed on passing an order in the petition pending before it. On July 1, the central administrative tribunal (CAT) Bengaluru bench quashed the suspension of Vikash in relation to the June 4 stampede outside the stadium, wherein 11 people lost their lives. Challenging the same, the state govt moved the high court. In a separate petition, Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd, the entity which runs the RCB franchise, challenged the observation made by the tribunal that it was RCB’s social media posts which led to a large congregation of people outside the stadium.
