Video clip of alleged roadside extortion triggers concern in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A video circulating on social media showing two men confronting a car driver near KR Pura hanging bridge has raised concerns over suspected daylight extortion in Bengaluru. The footage shows men banging on the vehicle’s window, accusing the driver of hitting them and demanding that he stops the car. According to Ramamurthynagar police, no official complaint has been lodged so far. “We have taken cognisance of the video and contacted the car driver, requesting him to file a complaint. If he doesn’t respond, we will take further necessary action,” said a senior officer. The video, believed to be recorded on a dash cam, shows the two men approaching the vehicle and trying to engage in an argument. The driver is heard asking if they were injured. The situation escalates briefly before the two men walk away after realising they are being recorded. Police say it is unclear whether the incident was a case of road rage, a staged accident, or part of a larger pattern. “There have been no recent reports of similar cases in our jurisdiction. At this stage, we cannot confirm if it was an organised act,” the officer added. Online, several users have labelled the incident as an attempted extortion in broad daylight and voiced concern over what they claim is a rising trend in such confrontations across the city. Police have begun verifying the footage and are looking into the identity of the two men seen in the video.
