Karnataka man duped of Rs 6 lakh in online job scam; lured via YouTube ad promising daily earnings

UDUPI: A resident of Udupi allegedly lost over Rs 6 lakh after being duped by a YouTube advertisement that promised daily earnings.In his complaint, Gaurish stated that while browsing YouTube in May, he came across an advertisement titled “Daily Earning Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000.” On clicking the link, he was redirected to WhatsApp via his mobile number and received a message promoting online income opportunities.The sender shared details about online part-time jobs and added Gaurish to a WhatsApp group named “Daily Part-Time Earning Group.” The group circulated further job-related tasks and instructed him to invest money to complete them.Between 29 May and 15 July, the complainant reportedly transferred a total of ₹6.05 lakh through Google Pay and internet banking in multiple instalments to bank accounts provided by unknown individuals. However, neither the invested amount nor the promised returns were paid back.Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the CEN Crime Police Station under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
