Suspect held in WFH job scam case | Mangaluru News

Udupi: Karkala Subdivision police arrested a man from Bengaluru, who allegedly duped a person of over Rs 2 lakh through a fake work-from-home (WFH) job offer. The accused is Shridhar V,27, a resident of Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru.Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said that during the operation, police seized items used in the crime, including a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000, three ATM cards of different banks, and cash amounting to Rs 1.7 lakh. Additionally, Rs 27,086 found in the accused’s bank account was frozen.Ramesh Naik, a resident of Nalkuru village under Hebri police station limits, applied for a WFH data entry job in Dec 2024 through the Lokal Job application, after seeing an advertisement under the name Sunshine HR Solution. Following this, the complainant was contacted over mobile from many numbers, and through WhatsApp, claiming to represent the said company.Between Dec 19, 2024, and June 20 this year, the accused convinced the complainant to make multiple payments through Google Pay and PhonePe under various pretexts such as security deposit, account creation, and error modification charges, resulting in a total of 98 transactions amounting to Rs 2 lakh. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Hebri police station invoking Section 66(D) of the IT Act and Section 318(4) of the BNS.A police team went to Bengaluru and arrested the accused on Thursday. A court has remanded him in judicial custody.
