Chikkamagaluru/Hassan: Rainfall has subsided in the Malnad region of Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts after three days of heavy showers last week, with normal life resuming on Sunday. Despite the reduction in rain, several villages continue to face electricity and drinking water shortages, and numerous incidents of infrastructure damage have been reported.Chikkamagaluru district recorded 39 mm of rainfall, with Sringeri taluk experiencing the highest amount at 115.7 mm. In Hassan, Sakleshpur and Belur received significant rainfall. Continuous precipitation across six taluks in the Malnad region has caused the Tunga, Bhadra, and Hemavati rivers to rise above danger levels in various locations. The flooding has inundated arecanut and coconut plantations, as well as fields along the riverbanks.Heavy rain in Kerekatte and Nemmar of Sringeri taluk, and Jayapura and Hariharapura in Koppa taluk, have caused the Tunga River to exceed danger marks. Similarly, rainfall in Kudremukh, Kalasa, Magundi, and Balehonnur has pushed the Bhadra River beyond safe levels. In Mudigere taluk, substantial rainfall has led to the Hemavati River overflowing.Strong winds accompanied the heavy rains, resulting in fallen electricity poles and uprooted trees that have blocked several roads. Sringeri town has been without electricity for the past two days, while rural areas have experienced power outages for several days. Most parts of Malnad are dealing with power disruptions, although power workers have been operating round the clock to repair the damage.
