Polinkana fest celebrated in Bhagamandala to reduce intensity of rain | Mysuru News

Madikeri: The traditional Polinkana festival was celebrated on Thursday by floating the festival pavilion at Triveni Sangam in Bhagamandala amidst heavy rainfall. Hundreds of devotees witnessed the festival.The Polinkana festival was celebrated in Bhagamandala with the aim of reducing the intensity of the rain. First, devotees offered prayers to Lord Ganapati, Subrahmanya, Mahavishnu, and Lord Bhagandeshwara at the Bhagandeshwara Temple. Then, the devotees who had gathered at the mantapa made of banana leaves put on a garland of auspicious beads, a silver cradle, and gold ornaments, along with coins. They offered saffron, bangles, saris, and other items to the mantapa, performed rituals, and then went around the temple before proceeding to Triveni Sangam.It is believed that if the mantapa turns reverse while in the Cauvery River, there will be more rain in the region. This time, the mantapa started flowing in the Cauvery River without turning in any direction. The Polinkana festival has been celebrated in a traditional manner in Bhagamandala since ancient times. According to a story, when a woman went home for her first delivery, there was a flood in the river, and she offered baagina to the flooded river. Later, the floods receded, and she was able to go home. In this context, the tradition of offering baagina to the river is followed every year.
