Mysuru: Mysuru City police, who launched a fight against drug peddling and consumption, on Saturday, found 69 youths having consumed ganja. They were subjected to medical tests by teams of doctors at Chamundi Vihar Stadium for confirmation.In the last five days, about 258 youths, including 69 on Saturday alone, consumed banned narcotic drugs from among 870 tested.The youths were picked up for testing on suspicion from across Mysuru city. They were picked up from parks, open areas, near liquor shops, and other public places by police officers from the respective jurisdiction.Commissioner of police Seema Latkar said after Mumbai police arrested four persons on charges of producing banned liquid ecstasy in NR police limits, special drives are being conducted in Mysuru city.About 289 youths were tested on Saturday, of whom 69 consumed ganja, which they purchased from unknown people. They were all examined at Chamundi Vihar Stadium and subjected to urine tests to confirm the consumption of banned narcotic drugs – ganja. The drive would continue, the commissioner stated.About 581 youths were tested in four days, of whom 189 tested positive for ganja consumption. Seema Latkar claimed that through urine tests, the consumption of about nine different narcotic drugs can be detected.Deputy commissioner of police (crime) KS Sundar Raj said those youths who tested positive for ganja consumption have been served notices to appear before the court. The special mass drive has been successful to an extent, the DCP stated.
