MIMS announces counselling after student suicides | Mysuru News

Mandya: In the wake of two tragic student suicides within a span of 15 days, the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) has announced plans to conduct counselling sessions and interactive meetings with hostel residents, including both medical and nursing students. The first incident occurred on July 20, when a first-year medical student was found dead by suicide in the hostel room. On Aug 2, a final-year BSc nursing student also took her life in the hostel, raising serious concerns about student mental health and well-being on campus.MIMS director Dr P Narasimhaswamy urged students not to resort to such extreme measures. “Suicide is not a solution. If students are facing issues, they should approach faculty members or other trusted individuals. We are here to support them,” he said.In response to the incidents, the institute plans to organise a series of meetings with students in the coming days. These sessions will include counselling by qualified psychiatrists and mental health professionals to help students cope with stress and personal challenges, he said.
