Man loses over Rs 6 lakh in online scam

Udupi: A resident of Udupi allegedly lost over Rs 6 lakh after being lured through a YouTube advertisement promising daily earnings.In a complaint, Gaurish stated that while browsing YouTube in May, he came across an advertisement titled ‘Daily Earning Rs 1000 to Rs 3000′. On clicking the link provided in the ad, he was redirected via WhatsApp from his mobile number to a platform claiming “Get opportunities to make money online.Subsequently, the sender from that number shared information about online part-time jobs and added the complainant to a WhatsApp group named ‘Daily Part-Time Earning Group’. In the group, further details about part-time jobs were shared, and the complainant was given a few tasks, with instructions to invest money to complete them.Following these instructions, between May 29 and July 15, the complainant allegedly transferred a total of Rs 6 lakh via Google Pay and internet banking in multiple instalments to bank accounts specified by the unknown individuals. However, the accused neither returned the invested amount nor paid any promised profit.Based on the complaint, a case was registered at CEN Crime police station invoking Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act, and Section 318(4) of the BNS.
