Man gets 20-year jail for rape of minor girl

Mangaluru: Additional district and sessions FTSC-II (Pocso) judge Maanu KS sentenced an accused in a case of rape of a minor girl to 20 years in prison.Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the accused Mansoor alias Mohammad Mansoor alias Jabir,30, a resident of Sajipa Nadu, Bantwal taluk, allegedly raped and threatened the minor girl, recording a video of the incident. The case was registered at the Mangaluru women’s police station on Dec 23, 2023, under Sections 363, 376(2)(n), 376(3), 506 of IPC and Section 6 of the Pocso Act.The accused evaded arrest for about eight months, before being arrested on July 2, 2024, and the court placed him in judicial custody. The investigation was initially conducted by police inspector Gururaj and later continued by Rajendra B. The trial was conducted at the additional district and sessions FTSC-II (Pocso) court with special public prosecutors (SPP) K Badrinath Nairy and Sahana Devi Boloor representing the state. On Wednesday, the judge sentenced the accused to 20 years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000 for the rape of the minor girl. Additionally, the accused was fined Rs 5,000 and sentenced to one year in prison for issuing threats, the commissioner said.SPP Sahana Devi Boloor said the 10th standard student was lured by Mansoor through social media. On May 30, 2023, while the student was walking to school, the accused approached her. He suggested she skip school that day and drove her to a beach. After spending some time there, he took her to the house of an acquaintance in Manjeshwar, where he sexually assaulted her.On July 11, 2023, while the minor student was on her way to school, Mansoor approached her again in a vehicle and took her to a woman’s house. The accused sexually assaulted the minor and recorded the act. He threatened her not to disclose the incident to her family. On Dec 5, 2023, Mansoor came near the school and called her again, but she refused. The accused then threatened her once more. Distressed by these events, the girl returned home instead of going to school and narrated the incidents to her father. Later, a complaint was filed, the SPP said.The court directed that a compensation amount of Rs 55,000 be given to the girl. Additionally, the Legal Services Authority was instructed to provide her with compensation of Rs 3.5 lakh, she added.
