Kodagu DC issues strict instructions for road safety | Mysuru News
Madikeri: Kodagu DC Venkat Raja issued strict instructions regarding the proper upkeep of roads under the national highway, public works, and panchayat raj departments in the district. During a district road safety committee meeting at the DC office, he warned of suo motu proceedings against officials if accidents occur due to poor road maintenance.Speed breakers must be installed to control accidents in accident zones. The road markings must be painted, and the concerned officials must take up the pruning work of trees to prevent any untoward incidents, the DC instructed. He further directed officials to install signboards at sharp turns for road safety.“Drivers should be able to get information on the road through signboards. This can help in speed control and prevent accidents. Immediate action must be taken in this regard,” he added. He noted increased accidents on Kushalnagar-Sampaje national highway. “Action should be taken to control accidents. Four people died in a recent accident near Koyanadu, and accidents are more frequently on the highway. Caution boards must be installed across such zones immediately,” he stated.He instructed officials to install warning signs near Athur junction on Virajpet-Gonikoppal road, which has seen rising accidents. “If accidents occur due to improper maintenance of roads under the jurisdiction of the national highways, public works, and panchayat departments, a suo motu case will have to be registered against concerned officials,” he warned. He requested a detailed report about the road safety measures within a week.DSP B Dinesh Kumar discussed road safety, emphasising the need for painted speed breakers in accident-prone areas. “Many people are losing their lives due to accidents, and preventing accidents is important. In that regard, road safety measures are very important. Everyone’s life is precious. The police, NHA, public works, panchayat raj department, and regional transport department, are responsible for road safety,” he stated. He explained that recurring accidents within half a kilometre would be marked as a ‘black spot’. Officials from NHA and various departments attended the meeting.
