Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated

Pic: A massive bike rally was organised by Maji Sainikara Maha Okkoota as part of Kargil Victory Day celebrations on SaturdayBelagavi: Kargil Vijay Diwas programmes were organised across Belagavi district as part of the 26th anniversary celebrations of Kargil victory. Various social organisations and institutions, including ex-servicemen’s organisations across Belagavi district, organised programmes to inspire youth. Bike rallies and various competitions for the awareness of patriotism were the attractions. Thousands of ex-servicemen and their families, along with youths, participated in the programme.Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar inaugurated the celebrations organised by the Karnataka Ex-Servicemen’s Association district unit at the KPTCL Community Hall in Belagavi city. She said that Belagavi district, which has given heroes like Veer Rani Kittur Chennamma, Kranti Veer Sangolli Rayanna, and Belavadi Mallamma to this country, has given thousands of soldiers to protect the country. Later, ex-servicemen paid tribute to the Amar Jawan Jyoti and observed a minute’s silence. On this occasion, the children of former soldiers and the Belagavi soldier who lost his hand while participating in the Kargil war were honoured and felicitated.In Dharwad too, rich tributes were paid to the heroes of Kargil war at an event organised by North Karnataka Sainik Welfare Association, NCC volunteers, Scouts and Guides and students.Hubballi-Dharwad mayor Jyothi Patil laid a wreath to the Kargil Stupa located in front of the deputy commissioner’s office. NCC cadets, Scouts & Guides took part in the programme and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to those who laid down their lives fighting for the country.
