Heavy rainfall increases inflow and outflow at Cauvery basin dams | Mysuru News

Mysuru: Following heavy rainfall, the inflow to major dams in the Cauvery basin in Karnataka shot up suddenly.On Sunday, over 50,000 cusecs of water were released from the KRS dam as the reservoir reached its maximum level at the end of June. The KRS dam in Srirangapatna is receiving 52,856 cusecs, while the outflow is 56,474 cusecs. The forest department cancelled boating at the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary as a precautionary measure.From the Kabini dam in HD Kote taluk, 32,917 cusecs were released, with the dam receiving around 30,000 cusecs of inflow. As a result, many downstream areas witnessed flood-like situations. In Nanjangud town, the Parashurama Temple and bathing ghat were submerged in the floodwater. The devotees and locals are advised against venturing into the river.Excess water is also being released from the Taraka dam in HD Kote. Several village roads were cut off as the floodwater submerged the road downstream of the reservoir, disrupting people’s movement.The Harangi dam in Kodagu is recording an inflow of 17,878 cusecs, while the outflow is 21,183 cusecs. The Hemavati dam in Hassan district is receiving 38,715 cusecs of inflow, while the outflow is 37,140 cusecs.Meanwhile, on Sunday, the old Mysuru region witnessed cloudy weather. The IMD issued an orange alert to the Malnad districts, while a yellow alert was issued to Mysuru, Mandya, and other surrounding districts.
