Four held producing liquid ecstasy in Mysuru

Mysuru: In a joint operation with Mumbai police, Mysuru City police arrested four people — two each from Mumbai and Gujarat — on charges of producing liquid ecstasy.Police seized the banned liquid being produced by setting up a temporary distillation unit at a vehicle garage in Narasimharaja police limits in north-east part of Mysuru. Other equipment has also been seized from them.City police commissioner Seema Latkar confirmed to TOI the arrest of the four persons late on Saturday. The gang was caught while producing liquid ecstasy through the distillation process. Acting on a clue, a raid was conducted on the garage just after dusk.An investigation is under way to find out their connections in Mysuru and with the garage/ property owners. “Apparently, it looks like a vehicle garage. But the accused persons were involved in making crystal-like substances by boiling a few compositions of chemicals,” the commissioner explained.Sources said that liquid ecstasy is a recreational drug in parts of western countries. But in India, any such narcotic substances, including MDMA, ecstasy, or ganja, are banned, and its trade is punishable under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
