Kalaburagi: A student took her own life by hanging on her birthday at Central University near Kadaganchi in Aland taluk on Wednesday afternoon.The deceased is Jayasri Nayak, 20, a native of Odisha. She was a second-year degree student in the zoology department. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room in Yamuna Hostel.According to police sources and students, Jayasri was seen crying after meeting Basavaraj Kubakaddy, dean of students’ welfare, on Tuesday night. On Wednesday — her birthday — she missed her classes. When her roommates returned for lunch, they found her room locked from inside. Upon discovering her body, the students immediately alerted the hostel administration, after which a carpenter was summoned to break open the door.Attempts to contact the university’s senior officials to get details of the incident were unsuccessful.A case was registered at Narona police station, and investigations are underway.
