Mangaluru: The District Sand Monitoring Committee decided to supply sand from 15 approved sand blocks in the non-CRZ area to the public and for development projects through the Dakshina Kannada Sand Bazaar app. Those wishing to transport sand can register their vehicles on the DK Sand Bazaar app developed for the district.Through this app, the distribution of sand to the public and development projects within the district commenced, and those in need of sand can obtain it online via the app, stated a release from the department of mines and geology.Out of the 15 sand blocks, 3,30,405 metric tonnes are available for sand mining. As per the environmental clearance certificate, sand extraction is prohibited in the sand lease area from June 5 to Oct 15 each year. Accordingly, sand mining is prohibited in the sand lease area in Dakshina Kannada.Of the total 27,550 metric tonnes available at the sand stock yards, 12,126 metric tonnes were distributed through the booking app from March 2025 to date. Furthermore, 15,424 metric tonnes of sand available at the sand lease stock centre can be booked on the website dksandbazaar.com.
