Haveri: MP Basavaraj Bommai launched a scathing attack on the Congress administration in Karnataka, labelling it “non-functional”, and predicting that its shortcomings will ensure BJP’s return to power in the state.He was speaking at a preparatory meeting, attended by party functionaries and workers, ahead of the Shrimati Gangamma S Bommai Trust event scheduled for Aug 14, in Haveri.Bommai called for widespread public support to strengthen BJP’s presence in Haveri. He committed to increased regional engagement by saying that he will dedicate more time to his constituency and visit all taluks.The MP criticised the current Congress administration’s performance, particularly in the agriculture sector. He noted the govt’s inability to provide seeds and fertilisers, and their failure in compensating farmers for crop losses over two years. He claimed that under the previous BJP administration, farmers received Rs 7,000 crore in compensation, double the contribution by the Centre.Bommai also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s release of the 20th Kisan Samman scheme instalment from Varanasi, disbursing Rs 20,000 crore to 7 crore farmers nationwide. He detailed local disbursements: Rs 30.1 crore to 1.6 lakh farmers in Haveri district and Rs 23 crore to 1.1 lakh farmers in Gadag district. The meeting was attended by former MLAs, BJP district president Veerupakshappa Ballari, former MLA Arun Kumar Pujar, and party workers.
