Bengaluru revenue officer attacked by house dog during tax survey | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: A senior BBMP revenue officer sustained injuries after being bitten by a house dog during an official tax and geo-survey on Pipeline Road, Yeshwantpur, Wednesday afternoon.Govindraj Raju, a veteran civic official with over 25 years of service, was conducting a door-to-door tax survey around 4.30pm when the incident occurred. As part of BBMP’s ongoing initiative to update property records and collect taxes, officials were carrying out GPS and geo-tagging of properties in the area.According to Raju, the house where the incident took place didn’t have a gate, and the dog came charging out without warning. “I was doing my duty. The moment I stepped near the property, the dog lunged at me and bit my left leg. I was shocked and in pain,” he said.Raju was immediately administered first aid and later taken to KC General Hospital, where he was given anti-rabies injections. Fortunately, the wound was not life-threatening, but the official will require follow-up medical care.“The house owners just told me to manage it on my own. There was no gate to keep the dog in, and no warning either. If this is how we are treated while doing our job, it’s very discouraging,” he said.BBMP officials have expressed concern over the safety of personnel deployed for field surveys and called for greater cooperation from residents. “Our officials are just doing their duty. Citizens must ensure their pets are restrained, especially during official visits,” said a senior BBMP official.
