Bengaluru cop trying to stop family fight attacked with dagger; four nabbed | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old head constable attached to Chamarajpet police station was injured Saturday while trying to stop a street fight between two families in Valmikinagar at 9.30pm. Four people, including a minor, have been arrested for the attack.The constable, Santosh, was reportedly on his way to have food when a resident alerted him to a fight nearby. He rushed to the spot and tried to intervene, but one of the accused stabbed him on the left wrist. Another man, 53-year-old Mohammed Shafiulla, also sustained injuries.The accused are Tabrez Pasha alias Chor Tabrez, his elder brother Abrez, his 17-year-old brother, and their friend Salman Pasha, all residents of Valmikinagar. According to police, the altercation stemmed from a personal grudge.Tabrez was earlier married to Shafiulla’s daughter. However, due to his alleged involvement in theft, mobile snatching and vehicle-lifting cases, she separated from him, divorced him, and later remarried, police said. Tabrez also married another woman. Still, he reportedly held Shafiulla responsible for the fallout with his first wife and nursed a grudge. On Saturday, Shafiulla, who lives in Kengeri and runs an incense stick business, was visiting his sister’s house on 10th Cross at IInd Main in Valmikinagar. Tabrez and his associates arrived at the house and began assaulting Shafiulla. A bystander, who witnessed the fight, saw the constable nearby and informed him. Santosh tried to intervene, but Tabrez allegedly attacked him with a dagger, injuring his wrist. Bleeding, Santosh managed to alert his colleagues at the police station.By the time police arrived, the accused had fled, but police have since traced and arrested them. Both Santosh and Shafiulla were taken to hospital and are now out of danger.Based on Santosh’s complaint, police registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt-to-murder (Section 109), assault to deter a public servant (Section 132), and voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons (Section 118). A second case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Shafiulla’s sister.Police said the juvenile has been sent to the Juvenile Justice Board, while the three others will be produced before court.
