Mangaluru: Aati is not just about preparing and enjoying various delicacies; instead, efforts should be made to comprehend its genuine significance and true form, said Athrady Amrutha Shetty, a member of the Dr Shivaram Karanth Trust. She spoke about Aati during the ‘Aatida Gena’ event organised by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and the women’s wing of the All India Mundala Youth Forum at the Tulu Bhavana on Sunday. She stressed the importance of understanding the challenges associated with the Aati month. Although such issues may not be prevalent now, future generations should be aware of them. It is crucial to understand the reasons and effects of consuming Aati Kashaya. Aati is not an inauspicious time; it is a month of well-being and happiness. It is a time to demonstrate and prove the strength of Tulu women and their ability to manage household responsibilities. One should recognise the care and values of life that she embodies by feeding both her family and guests, she added. The food consumed during the rainy season is more about sustenance than taste. Aati Kashaya was an integral part of life for previous generations, but now it has become a trend on social media, she noted.Tharanath Gatti Kapikad, chairman of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, said that Aati should not be limited to playing in the paddy fields’ mud.
