Woman seeking help for son’s treatment loses Rs 30,000 | Mangaluru News

Udupi: A woman from Cherkadi village in Brahmavar taluk, seeking help for her infant son’s heart treatment, was allegedly duped of Rs 30,000 by a fraudster who posed as a donor offering financial assistance.In a complaint, Usha,29, stated that she was cheated while seeking financial assistance for her one-month-old baby boy who is suffering from a heart-related ailment. As the treatment is estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh, she appealed for help via WhatsApp groups.On July 28, she received a call from a mobile number, and the caller claimed he would donate Rs 3 lakh towards her child’s treatment but said she would first need to pay Rs 30,000 as GST in order to receive the funds. Believing the caller, the complainant transferred the amount through Google Pay to the number he provided. It was only later that she realised she was cheated.Based on her complaint, a case was registered at the Brahmavar police station, invoking Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act, and Section 318(4) of the BNS.
