Mangaluru: Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot said, “Teachers are the pillars of society, building knowledge, values, and moral principles. They not only impart knowledge to students but also provide direction, vision, and purpose to their lives. Just as a lamp burns itself to dispel darkness, teachers illuminate society by spreading the light of knowledge, values, and ideas.”He was speaking during Prerana Diwas-2025, organised by the Karnataka Rajya Mahavidyalaya Shikshaka Sangha (KRMSS) in Moodbidri, on Saturday. The event was held to felicitate exemplary educators and celebrate their unwavering dedication to shaping young minds.He added that the guru-disciple tradition has been an integral part of India’s cultural heritage, where teachers are revered as ‘Guru Brahma’ and ‘Guru Vishnu’. “Whether it is ancient scholars or modern educators like Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, all have demonstrated that teachers are not only knowledge providers but also builders of society. Teachers are the architects of nation-building,” he said.“In today’s society, surrounded by moral crises, technological changes, and global challenges, teachers are the foundation for innovation, wisdom, and ethics. In the current era of technological revolution, artificial intelligence, and global competition, the role of teachers has become even more crucial. Their dedication and innovation inspire countless individuals. When they live their personal lives with honesty and simplicity, they embody the true meaning of inspiration,” he said about teaching professionals.Governor Gehlot stressed the need to make the current education system more value-based, student-centred, and innovative. HS Ballal, vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and Ananthakrishna Bhat, a constitutional expert and founder of Saraswati Group of Institutions, Meghalaya, were honoured with lifetime achievement award.
