BJP hits back at Cong’s development jab

Dharwad: A day after leader of opposition in HDMC Imran Eligar accused the ruling BJP of not taking up development works in the twin cities, the BJP leaders hit back, saying that the LoP is ignorant about the development of Hubballi and Dharwad.Former mayor and House leader Iresh Anchatgeri said on Thursday that for the past 15 years, the BJP has been in power in the twin cities and is now in office for the third consecutive time. Under the guidance of Union minister Pralhad Joshi and the leadership of MLAs Aravind Bellad and Mahesh Tenginakai, several development works have been undertaken in HDMC limits, he said.Anchatageri pointed out that during Basavaraj Bommai’s tenure as CM, even opposition MLAs including Congress’ Prasad Abbayya were granted funds of Rs 25 crore each to facilitate development works, which reflects the BJP government’s inclusive approach.“Over the past fifteen years, development projects worth thousands of crore have been carried out under BJP rule. The municipal corporation is the second largest in Karnataka and has earned top ranking in cleanliness. It appears the opposition leader is unaware of this,” Anchatageri said.Listing the development works undertaken, he said door-to-door waste collection, elimination of black spots, construction of concrete and internal roads, development of parks, opening of gyms, and beautification of the city are just a few among many initiatives, due to which the citizens have blessed the BJP with a third consecutive term.“In the past three years alone, works worth Rs 500 crore have been completed, and projects worth another Rs 300 crore are underway. Even in the ward of opposition leader Eligar, development works worth over Rs 4 crore have been executed,” Anchatageri noted. Although the state Congress govt has changed HDMC commissioners three times, causing obstacles to development works, Rs 300 crore grants from the state govt is still pending and and crores of rupees to be paid as pension arrears have remain unpaid and the opposition leaders must focus on these issues, he said.Anchatageri urged opposition leaders to reflect on their own performance instead of making false statements and to contribute sincerely to the development of the twin cities.
