Govt failed to frame policy for sand, laterite stone: BJP | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district BJP president Sathish Kumpala said that the party will have to launch massive protests if the state govt fails to resolve the laterite stone and sand shortage crisis in the district. On Saturday, Kumpala said the govt should frame a separate policy for sand and laterite stone extraction in the coastal districts. He expressed his anger over district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao for not chairing a meeting of elected representatives and officials to discuss the issue. “The minister should have convened a meeting of representatives to understand the situation and find a solution. Labourers, who are dependent on the construction industry, should not be put to hardship by making them jobless. The govt should ensure that a sufficient quantity of construction materials is available in the district,” he said. MLA Y Bharath Shetty said that officials have been misguiding people by making claims that sand is available for sale through the Sand Bazaar app. He said the sand that is available at the stockyard is coarse, a mixture of sand and pebbles.
