Court sentences two men for rape and aiding crime | Hubballi News

Davanagere: The first additional district and sessions court sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for luring a girl, marrying her, and committing rape, and another person to 3 years in prison for aiding the crime. CH Manohar, 25, from Channagiri, received a 20-year sentence, while Hanumanth, 31, was sentenced to 3 years. Judge Shriram Narayan Hegde recommended that the govt provide Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the victim. Manohar deceived a 13-year-old girl, who was in the 7th grade, by promising marriage. On Nov 1, 2022, he took her to Bengaluru with 50 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash. Hanumanth assisted Manohar in pawning the jewellery for money and in escaping. Channagiri circle police inspector PB Madhu conducted the investigation and submitted the chargesheet to the court. Advocates Sunanda Madivalar and AM Basavaraj argued on behalf of the govt.
