Shivamogga: BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Friday spearheaded a demonstration in Shivamogga, voicing concerns over the state govt’s management of agricultural issues. He accused the govt of failing to provide fertilisers to farmers despite adequate rainfall.Vijayendra claimed 4,283 farmers died by suicide during chief minister Siddaramaiah’s tenure between 2013 and 2018, while 900 such cases were recorded during his second term. “While the Union govt provided sufficient fertilisers, state-level distribution remains problematic,” he claimed, and criticised Shivamogga district minister Madhu Bangarappa, saying he has neglected agricultural issues. He indicated BJP’s readiness to organise a statewide padayatra if necessary. The demonstration attracted BJP workers and farmers who proceeded from T Seenappa Setty Circle to the DC office. Vijayendra also raised concerns over land rights issues, particularly regarding bagirhukum. In Shivamogga, over one lakh farmers await land rights certificates. The BJP leadership indicated potential street protests and padayatra if their concerns remain unaddressed. Senior BJP figures, including former ministers Haratalu Halappa and Araga Jnanendra, participated in the event.Haratalu Halappa said, “As many as 43 schools have been closed in the remote area of Byakod Tumri region of Sagar taluk. There are no doctors in Hosanagara hospital. The 108 ambulance service has stopped. Whenever we question the minister, he says he won with a margin of 55,000 votes.”Araga Jnanendra said the forest department is removing ginger and areca nut plantations across the district. “I warned about the implementation of the Kasturirangan report that it would lead to bloodshed. The previous govt under the leadership of Basavaraj Bommai rejected it, but Siddaramaiah is taking credit for stopping it, which is unfair,” he said.
