60-yr-old man survives after drifting 10 km in river

A Jayanna, 60, from Mysuru accidentally fell into Tungabhadra River while washing clothes. Despite the river being in spate, he managed to stay afloat for 10 km and survived the ordeal.The incident occurred when Jayanna was washing clothes near the Ayyappa Swamy temple in Kumarapattanam. After slipping into the river, he found himself caught in the current. Unable to return to the bank, he drifted downstream for 10 kilometres until he reached the vicinity of Holamatha in Airani village.With his energy depleting, Jayanna called out for help. Some local residents spotted him and organised a rescue using a fisherman’s boat. They brought him to shore and admitted to the Harihar taluk govt hospital. Medical staff confirmed that his condition is stable now.The incident of Jayanna’s determination to survive by staying afloat, rather than succumbing to panic, has garnered attention across the Haveri district. The local community has commended both his resilience and the swift action of his rescuers.
