Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police team seized 123 kg of ganja and arrested three persons involved in its transportation from Andhra Pradesh. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the CCB team intercepted two vehicles near Matadakere at Kantavara Cross in Beluvai village, Moodbidri, based on credible information. The police team found ganja being transported in two cars.The arrested suspects are Masood MK,45, a resident of Mogaru House, Adoor, in Kasaragod district of Kerala, Mohammed Ashiq,24, and Suber,30, both residents of Parappa in Kasaragod. Police seized two vehicles and five mobile phones from the arrested. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 46.2 lakh. Moodbidri police registered a case, and investigations are under way, said the commissioner. He added that the city police will intensify its drives to clamp down on drug peddling in the city.Cattle TheftKundapur Rural police in Udupi on Friday arrested four individuals for stealing a cow near Kalavara Junction. Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said CCTV footage from the area showed two cows resting near a bakery around 7 pm on July 28. At around 5 am the following morning, two unidentified men fed one of the cows, forcefully grabbed its horns, and tied its legs. They later transported the cow in a vehicle, allegedly for illegal slaughter. The arrested are Aboobacker,39, a resident of Gulwadi village, Mohammed Rafeeq,36, of Dasarabettu, Yakoob,24, from Thota Mane in Gulwadi, and Sunil,33, of Kote Bagilu. All four were produced before the jurisdictional magistrate.The stolen cow was valued at approximately Rs 5,000. A case was registered at the Kundapur Rural police station under Sections 303(2) of the BNS, and Sections 4, 5, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance, 2020. Additionally, Section 11(1)(D) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, was also applied. Following the directions of SP Hariram Shankar and additional SP Sudhakar Naik, a team led by Kundapur DSP HD Kulkarni and circle inspector Jayaram D Gowda arrested the accused.6 held in gambling caseBrahmavar police in Udupi arrested six individuals for allegedly engaging in gambling at a lodge in Varamballi village on Thursday. Based on a tip-off, a police team led by sub-inspector Ashok Malabagi raided the lodge room. Although the team found eight individuals playing a card game ‘Andar-Bahar’ with cash at stake, two suspects — identified as Suresh and Sujay — managed to flee the scene. Meanwhile, Gopal, Ramesh, Abhilash, Vikram, Ratnakar, and Mohammad Hussain have been apprehended.Police seized Rs 2.4 lakh in cash, five mobile phones, a set of playing cards, tables, and chairs used for gambling. A case under Sections 79 and 80 of the Karnataka Police Act has been registered.
