Bengaluru: A 10-year-old schoolgirl sustained severe injuries after she was partially run over by a BMTC bus at the 5th main junction in Chamarajpet Wednesday evening. The injured girl has been identified as Dhyana, a resident of 2nd Main in Chamarajpet. Police said Dhyana was riding pillion on a scooter ridden by her mother, Bharathi, 38, who sustained minor injuries in the accident around 6.35 pm. According to the complaint filed by Bharathi’s husband, a businessman, Bharathi noticed a pothole in the junction and applied brakes to avoid it. The BMTC bus, which was moving parallel to the scooter, hit the scooter’s handle as the driver was trying to overtake. Bharathi lost balance, and both fell on the road. Dhyana, who was sitting behind, came under the rear wheel of the bus. The bus partially ran over her body. The driver realised the accident and managed to apply brakes. He got down, noticed the girl under the wheel, and immediately reversed the bus.Witnesses rushed the girl and Bharathi to a nearby hospital. A senior officer said Dhyana underwent surgery Wednesday night and is under observation for 48 hours.VV Puram traffic police visited the spot and found the accident spot a few feet away from a small pothole. They are verifying CCTV footage to find the cause of accident. Bharathi is in complete shock, and the family is yet to give their statements.The case has been registered against the driver. The bus has been seized. The Vajra bus was heading towards Banashankari third stage from Majestic.
